I price projects individually.

What influences project price?
Transcreation on top of translation
Does your text need to be creatively adapted to your target audience?
(e.g., marketing copies)
On-device testing and QA
Will I be testing the translation on my devices?
(e.g., to make sure strings don’t overflow buttons or to check if the translation fits the context)
Unusual source formats
Do you need to translate physical scans?
CAT tool requirements
(Applies to agencies) Am I free to use my own tools (best case), or will you give me access to your own CAT tool? I am 100% okay with most, but I charge extra for being forced to work in badly designed environments that slow me down.
Special requirements
Does your project come with special instructions I need to dutifully follow troughout?
(e.g., a long and detailed style guide, character limits, platform-specific requirements…)
Termbase creation
Do you want me to create a curated termbase for the project?
Time
Do you need express delivery?
Why don’t I have a fixed rate per word?
After reading the above, you now probably understand that setting a single fixed rate in advance would be nonsensical. No two projects take the same amount of time and effort. I wouldn’t want to work for an overly low rate on a complex project, nor would my clients want to pay an overly high rate for something relatively simple. That is why I want to learn about the project first.
How do I price MTPE projects?
I set my rate for post-editing projects the same way I set it for any other project: by evaluating the complexity and estimating the time needed to do the job.
