What influences project price?
A lot of things, actually!
➤ Does your text need to be creatively adapted to your target audience?
(e.g., marketing copies)
➤ Will I be testing the translation on my devices?
(e.g., to make sure strings don’t overflow buttons or to check if the translation fits the context)
➤ (Applies to agencies) Am I free to use my own tools (best case), or will you give me access to your own CAT tool? I am 100% okay with most, but I charge extra for being forced to work in badly designed environments that slow me down.
➤ Does your project require strict adherence to a style guide and other extra instructions?
(e.g., a 30-page style guide, strict character limits, platform-specific requirements…)
➤ Do you want me to create a curated termbase for the project?
➤ Do you need delivery within 24 hours?
➤ Do you need me to work over the weekend?
What about surcharges?
You can expect a surcharge of 50% for rush jobs (delivery within 24 hours), weekend jobs, and jobs requiring me to first prepare the source documents for proper translation with the help of OCR software (typically uneditable PDFs/scanned documents).
